During my exchange semester I’ve been able to travel a lot. I’ve been to Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania, the East Coast and I am even going to Japan for a few days before coming back to France. I just ended my last trip which was at the Flinders Ranches.
The Flinders Rangers are the largest mountain range in South Australia, 5h from Adelaïde. So we decided to rent a car for 4 days and travel there to see the beautiful landscapes and we hiked. We first bought some food because it is in the middle of nowhere and of course you can’t buy any food there. We stayed in a resort which was really nice and way better than what we were used to in our other travels. What is great in Australia is that you can drive an hour from the big cities and be in the middle of nowhere.
We went hiking next to the resort and saw beautiful viewpoints with red rocks. Then we went to an Aboriginal site, which is part of the Australian culture, and saw paintings. Finally, we chose a lookout to see the sunset and it was amazing. We all liked how red the rocks were and there were soooo many kangaroos. You also have to be very careful at night because you can’t see them and many of them are killed on the road.
The next day we made a 20km hike and it was breathtaking. It wasn’t easy because we had to climb a lot to reach the top of the highest mountain of the flinders ranges but so worth it. We also saw kangaroos everywhere while we walked here. It was really nice and made us realize we were in Australia, so different from our home country. The last day we drove back to Adelaide and stopped to enjoy the landscapes. We also had time to visit some wineries and do wine tasting.
It was a really nice trip because Australia has not only big cities like Sidney. In fact, most part of the country is the outback. It also was a good way to end our semester (already…). We are all leaving in 3 weeks and have to work now for our exams.
During my semester I’ve met amazing people that I will for sure see again in Europe or Australia. I’ve learned many things through uni and more importantly a different way of learning. I also feel I’ve improved my English and got used to the Australian accent. Finally, I’ve travelled a lot and discovered a new country that I didn’t know at all. Traveling makes you meet new people that sometimes think differently and have a different way of life. Australian are so kind and always happy to help you when you need help. Student also loooove to party and are so nice, I loved my student life here. The cities are huge and beautiful but the thing I liked the most was the outback and the nature (never thought I would say that one day).
This semester also makes me realize how lucky I was to live in France, a beautiful safe country that has amazing food, landscapes and history.
I hope I will come back one day in Australia, well…I’m sure I will! I have so many other things to discover in this huge and beautiful country.
